Being Kind & Inclusive
- Don’t discriminate against others.
- Be actively kind to others.
- If anyone or anything makes you feel uncomfortable or unwelcome please talk to the team or fill out the feedback form.
- Don’t make assumptions about dance roles based on gender presentation
- Assume most people switch, if you’d like to dance a particular role please tell the person you’re asking to dance.
- Maintain good hygiene. We all get sweaty dancing but it’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes if you find you’re getting uncomfortably sweaty.
Consent
- Take “no” gracefully
- Anyone is welcome to turn down a dance or leave a dance early without giving a reason.
- People can turn down or cut short a dance for any number of reasons, which they don’t have to share.
- If you’re leaving a dance because it was uncomfortable and don’t feel you can express that directly to your dance partner, we can do so anonymously on your behalf – we work on the expectation that no one is being intentionally malicious and would want to know what they can do better.
- Don’t dip or lift people without their consent
- Unless you’re confident you have full non-verbal consent, please ask before you dip or lift someone.
- Respect physical boundaries in dance
- There are areas that are generally given in dance (such as arm to arm, backs, hands)
- If you are touching anywhere that is not standard in a dance you need active and ongoing consent from the person you’re dancing with. This includes dancing in close embrace.
- If you’re not sure about anything, ask.
Safety on the dance floor
- Please wear suitable clothing for dancing
- Avoid wearing anything that will cause you pain to dance in or could hurt someone you’re dancing with.
- Maintain good floorcraft throughout the event
- If you have a collison, stop your dance and check that no one is hurt.
- Apologise to the other people involved and only continue dancing when you’ve checked everyone is okay.
- Take breaks and drink water regularly.
If anyone is intentionally breaking this code of conduct they may be asked to leave and/or barred from future Sheffield Fusion Dance events.
