There won’t be any harsh or strobe lighting during events.
What to expect
At the start of the social we will have a taster class on a different dance style of technique. This is free to join in with and will run for 20-45 minutes. After this there will be social dancing until 10:30pm.
Dancing is mainly done in partners. There is no expectation to bring a partner. You can ask anyone to dance and there’s no requirement to say yes to anyone. Most people will dancing in switch but you can request to just dance a particular role (lead or follow) if you prefer. Please don’t assume someone’s dance role based on their appearance!
When you arrive at Shakespeare’s go through the main door, past the bar, turn left and go up the stairs. We will be in the larger room on the right. When you get to the room please pay a donation if you can (£0-5).
Looking after each other
We want Sheffield Fusion Dance to be a welcoming space to everyone, especially those in the LGBTQ community. We expect everyone who attends to show care and compassion to each other. Beyond the expectation that no one is explicitly homophobic, racist, transphobic, ablest, sexist or otherwise nasty to each other, we should all be striving to make everyone feel welcome in the scene. It’s good practice to reflect on who you ask to dance and why, as well as reflecting on any microaggression behaviour. We don’t expect people to be perfect all the time but we do expect kindness, compassion and self reflection.
If you have concerns about anyone please come and talk to the team.
Please see our code of conduct here.
If you have any other access requirements or questions please get in touch via email at sheffieldfusiondance@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to help.
